Boris's portrait Obtained the Ph.D. degree at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1984. Specialised in electrochemistry, bioelectrochemistry, automation of analytical instruments, ion chromatography and flow-injection analysis. Currently employed by the University as full professor of chemistry. Member of the Editorial boards of Acta Chimica Slovenica and of Acta Adriatica. He is IUPAC National Representative, Commission on Electroanalytical Chemistry. He is a devoted scuba diver and received many awards for underwater photos.

Matija's portrait Obtained his Ph.D. degree (2000) from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, where he is currently employed as assistant professor of analytical chemistry. Its application in conservation science is his research priority and he coordinates several national and international projects. Beside cellulose degradation studies and chemiluminescence, particular interests include laser cleaning of organic materials, stabilisation of iron in paper, studies of antioxidants, studies of size exclusion chromatography of cellulose. In August you will probably find him trekking somewhere in Africa.

Drago's portrait Was born in 1977 in Murska Sobota, Slovenia. He studied chemistry from 1997 to 2001 and graduated at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana in December 2001, diploma title: A new method for determination of hydroperoxide groups in cellulose. Currently employed as a researcher at the Faculty, his research interests being focused on chemiluminescence during degradation of cellulose.

Vid's portrait Was born in 1976, in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia and studied chemistry at the Faculty of chemistry and chemical technology of the University of Ljubljana, where he obtained the diploma in 2002 and now works at the Chair of analytical chemistry. His research is focused on the role of transition metals in degradation of cellulosic materials. His hobbies are photography, piano playing, DIY Hi-Fi, ... He likes to listen to all kinds of music: “...but if I had to choose, I would say that I'm a jazz fan. My favourite jazz album? Miles Davis: Kind of Blue.”

Jozef's portrait Finished university studies at the Faculty of Chemical Technology, Pardubice, Czech Republic, where he specialised in general physical chemistry. He received a Ph.D. degree in 1971 at the Polymer Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, Slovakia, for the elaboration of a method of efficient stabilisation of reactive free radicals, and the D.Sc. degree in 1966 for a significant contribution to the study of flammability of polymers and modelling thereof. His current interest is focused on oxidizability of synthetic and natural polymers, on the role of free radicals in the process and on strategies of prolongation of service life of the above materials.

Lyda's portrait Received her Ph.D. degree in 1971 at the Polymer Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, Slovakia, the title of her thesis being: Chemiluminescence accompanying decomposition of organic peroxides in solid polymer matrices. From the same institution, she obtained D.Sc. for the thesis: Chemiluminescence of Polymers in 1996. Her research interests cover the decomposition of initiators in solid polymers and degradation/stabilisation of polymers. She developed the method of chemiluminescence for classification of thermooxidative stability of polymers, especially of polyolefins and polyamides.

Dalimir's portrait Finished the Industrial school of electronics in Bratislava, Slovakia, where he specialised in measurement and automation. He graduated from the Electrotechnical Faculty of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. His professional interest is focused on connecting instruments with PCs, on automation of technological process and also on development of measuring methods for research and industrial applications. While he is the principal constructor of the Lumipol prototypes, his current interest is development and design of the LUMIPOL 3 instrument.

Katarina's portrait Finished the chemical studies at the Faculty of Chemical Technology of Slovak Technical University, Bratislava, Slovakia. Her research interests are focused on thermogravimetry of polymers and its use in the studies of effects of stabilizers and antioxidants, determination of inorganic residues in organic matrix and thermal stability of cellulose and wood.

Ivica's portrait Received her Ph.D. degree in macromolecular chemistry at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, in 1986. Her research interests include melting and crystallization processes of semicrystalline polymers, composites and polymer blends, crystallization kinetics of polymers and their composites, crystallization kinetics of modified polymer matrices by cross-linking and in the presence of fillers, scanning electron microscopy of polymer matrices filled with inorganic or organic fillers and thermal stability of biopolymers and their blends.

Is an art historian who has worked for 10 years as policy advisor for conservation and conservation research at the Dutch Ministry of Culture and the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN). For over 2 years he was head of the conservation research department of the ICN. He currently acts as a senior advisor to the director and the head of conservation science at the ICN, in combination with the position of head of Collections Management at the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden (also The Netherlands).

Joze's portrait Obtained a M.Sc. degree in polymer chemistry from the University of Helsinki, Finland (1994). His current research work at the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage involves the development of non-destructive and micro-analytical methods to characterise the condition of paper artefacts of historic and artistic value, as well as investigations into the mechanisms of paper degradation.

Jana's portrait Obtained the degree in chemistry at the University of Ljubljana, with a thesis, prepared at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. In 1990, she was employed by the National and University Library, where she now heads the Conservation department. Received a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1998 for a dissertation on the Effects of Conservation Treatments on the Stability of Cellulose. Her research interests include all aspects of degradation/conservation of library materials and she coordinates several national and international projects. She has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Restaurator since 1998. When not in the lab (which is rare) she enjoys organic gardening.

Jasna's portrait Received a degree in chemistry from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, with a thesis prepared at the Chair of organic chemistry. In 2000 she began to work on her Ph.D. thesis, and in 2001 she was employed by the Conservation department of the National and University library in Ljubljana as conservation scientist. Since then she has been working on two EU-funded projects: Papylum and InkCor, her special interests being factors affecting degradation of alkaline cellulose during light and heat induced ageing and development of non-aqueous method for prevention of iron-gall ink corrosion on paper.

Martin's portrait Obtained his degree in chemistry from the Faculty for chemistry and chemical engineering of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2002. In the same year he was employed by the Conservation department of the National and University library in Ljubljana as conservation scientist and began to work on his Ph.D. thesis at the same University. The main objective of his work is synthesis of compounds with iron chelating properties to be used for paper conservation purposes.

Jaques's portrait Graduated from École Nationale Supérieure des Industries Chimiques (Nancy, France) in 1960 and obtaned the Ph.D. from Université de Nancy (1964). He is currently a professor of Chemistry at the same institution and at the Université Blaise Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand) and was promoted to first class in 1974, and to exceptional class in 1990. In 1970, he created the Laboratoire de Photochimie and focussed the research on degrading effects of light on polymeric materials, on xenobiotics in the aquatic environment and on biological tissues. In 1986 he created the Centre National d'Évaluation de Photoprotection (CNEP), a subsidiary company of Université Blaise Pascal. He is a prolific author and lecturer and coordinates several projects.
